Sleek Craftsman Bathroom Remodel

A dark and dated bathroom gets a spa-like update in this 100 year old bungalow.  We pulled in Craftsman detail to match the rest of the home and opened the room up with a larger window.  The owner's love of bold color inspired the bright blue tile in the glassy tub-to-shower conversion.

Spanish Influenced In-Suite with Oversized Shower

A contractor grade bathroom gets accessibility updates to allow for future wheelchair access.  The client's love of Spanish and Southwest style comes together with colorful tiles and rustic finishes.  Absorbing space from a walk in closet allowed us to create the 25 SF shower, the highlight of the bath with recessed lighting and plenty of lounging space.

Reimagined Condo Living

A vintage Rogers Park condo is reconfigured to meet the needs of a new owner.  A work from home office and flex space was carved out of existing unused square footage in the living room and dining room respectively.  The dark interior was repainted and the exposed brick was white-washed to highlight the owners collection of Mid-Century Modern Furniture and bring a more modern feel to the unit.

Working with Sara Lines was a great experience. She became more than a designer very quickly, which proved to be really valuable as I renovated a vintage condo on my own in Chicago for the first time.

I could not be happier with the result of my condo project. I feel like it was a great collaboration between the two of us, and it was immensely helpful to have Sara on my team. By working with Sara, I learned I definitely had a style, something I had never really tried to define before. But having someone there to ask the questions and propose ideas was like having a sounding board to bounce ideas off of.

Sara listened to me and learned my style and where my limits were. And then she pushed me to be more creative and forward thinking at times, which I appreciated.  Sara paid attention to how I wanted to live in the space, ways that may not have been typical or expected, and then offered creative uses of space that really work for me.

Her professional experience with architecture and construction really shined as she took my ideas and her own and translated them into construction drawings that contractors could understand and utilize. All the general contractors we met with were very impressed with how prepared we were with our individual tasks and project areas, and the designs we had already come up with. By we, I really mean Sara. She led the meetings we had with contractors and walked them through the projects, which touched every room. This was a big relief because Sara speaks construction, whereas I do not, so I was confident that I was in good hands.

Professional, Creative, Collaborative

After receiving a recommendation from a friend, we contacted Sara with an idea for a new bathroom and a need for one that is ADA compliant. It started with wanting terracotta floor tile and ended with a beautiful and accessible space that is much more than a bathroom.  From our first meeting through the entire construction process, Sara was our guide.

At our first few meetings, Sara listened to our ideas, asked pertinent questions, and steered us from a hodgepodge of ideas into a clear plan (that she also warned us would be somewhat fluid). We were happy to have blueprints that were clear, organized, detailed to a fault, and easy to understand.

We are very thankful for Sara’s many trips to a variety of tile stores to collect samples and her eye for finding compatible yet different tile colors and styles. I do not think we would have had tile selected within months without her help. Sara found beautiful barn-style knotty-alder doors to fit the rustic feel of the room and found multiple options for all the plumbing and light fixtures. Thankfully, Sara found an excellent local general contractor (GC) to do the project, and the room looks marvelous.

We do not consider ourselves to be too picky, but we did have some bumps along the way. For instance, after opening the walls we had to change the size of the shower. Sara coordinated with the GC to create an even more functional space. We are thankful for Sara’s guidance, ideas, creativity, honest opinions, and more.

Highly recommended.
